Slieve Russell Golf Club won the Ulster Final of the Irish Junior Cup when they beat Roe Park by 3 matches to 2 matches at Balmoral Golf Club on the 11th August 2013.
They made the relatively short trip to Royal Tara Golf Club to participate in the National Deciders. They met Connaught Champions Westport Golf Club in the All-Ireland Semi-Final on Wednesday 17th September. They were lead by Brendan McGowan who won his match by 2-holes against Shane Larkin, he was followed by Darren Donoghue who lost out to Jack Healy by 3 and 1 next up was Barry Cunningham who went down by 4 and 3 to Tony Bree in the penultimate match Bryan Cribben lost his match against Ronan Hehir by 2 and 1, in the bottom match Stephen Monteith halved his match against Ronan Mahon when called in, non playing members were Francis Coffey and Liam McElgunn and they were captained by Ciaron McCauley. So it was not to be for the members from Ballyconnell to bring back its first green pennant.

Lorna and Lisa made history in Ladies Armature Golf when on 26th April they were selected to represent Great Britain & Ireland, together with Danielle McVeigh from Royal Co. Down Golf Club, inthe 36th Curtis Cup match against the United States at Essex County Club, Manchester-by-the-Sea, Massachusetts from June 11th to 13th September, 2010. The team Captain is Mary McKenna from Donabate Golf Club. At the tender age of 15-years they became the youngest players ever to be selected for this by-annual event.

Lorna Maguire (pictured above) playing of a +3 handicap at the age of 14-years has played in the Connacht Girls Champion in 2007; won the Scottish U-16 Strokeplay Champion in 2007 and won the Hermitage Scratch Cup in 2007 and 2008. She retained the French U-21 Open Championship in Paris on 5th April 2010, when se beat the Norwegian Tonje Daffinrud by 3 and 2, she also retained the Esmond Trophy. I'm sure we will see he on the Solheim Cup Team when played in Ireland in 2011.

Sister Lisa (pictured left) also playing of a +2 handicap started her winning-ways at an even younger age, she won the YMG Grand Masters Champion in 2005 and followed that by winning the U-12 U.S. World Golf Champion in 2006 together with Midland Girls Champion the same year.
