Forrest Little Golf Course

Forrest Little Club Crest

Forrest Little is adjacent to Dublin Airport founded in 1940 and designed by Fred Hawtree it is a challenging 18-hole Parkland course with many challenging and memorable holes. The fairways are lined with mature trees and the course has been used on several occasions as a venue for pre-qualifying for the Irish Open.

The signature holes are the 6th a 460 metres Par 5 with out of bounds down the left-hand side and almost impossible to get home in two, even if you do the odds are against being on the green because the green is well protected by several bunkers. The finishing hole is one of the best to be found anywhere at 411 metres will test the best of golfers.

Forrest Little has embarked on developing a youths' policy and has been very successful in developing good golfers at Boy's and Girls levels under the watchful eye of Tony Judd. It has a magnificent clubhouse where the golfers needs are catered for and a warm welcome awaits the visitor.

Jack McDonnell was selected on the Carey Cup team that played the Metropolitan Golf Association selection at Winged Foot, New York from 19th and 20th October 2023, others on the team were Marc Boucher (Carton House Golf Club), Jack Hearn (Tramore Golf Club), Darcy Hogg (Belvoir Park Golf Club), Quentin Carew (Castleknock Golf Club) and Robert Moran (Castle Golf Club).

GoGolfing.ie wishes to congratulate Julie McCarthy on winning her second Irish Girls’ Close Championship at Kilkenny Golf Club on 16th July 2016 when she beat Irish International Niamh McSherry of Lurgan Golf Club by 1-up. She joins an illustrious young golfers who have won it twice, such as Annabel Wilson, Karen Delaney, Pamela Murphy, Michelle McGreevy, Aideen Rogers, Elizebeth A. Gregor and Maeve O'Connell. We wish her the very best in the future.

Forrest Little Golf Club won the Leinster Final of the Jimmy Bruen Shield when they beat Newbridge Golf Club in the regional decider by 3-matches to 2-matches in 2011.

They made the long journey to the Castlerock Golf Club to compete in the All-Ireland deciders the following September. They were drawn against Ulster Champions Warrenpoint Golf Club in the All-Ireland Semi-Final, whom they beat by 3-matches to 2-matches. First on the tee was Caolan Kennedy with Brian Duggan who lost out to David McGreevy with Raymond Jackson by 2 and 1, they were followed by Greg O'Riordan with Karl Kiernan lost by 5 and 5 against Gerry Durkin with Tim Cunningham, they were followed by Andrew Timmons with Mark Lacey who beat John Hughes with Jack Gilsenan by 3 and 2, the penultimate match of Tom Bent with Mick Timmons went up the 19th before the Forrest Little pair secured the valuable point against Hudson McGuffin with Jason Pepper, the bottom match of Noel Lyons with Jack Blake against Brendan McKernan with Ros Carvill went 3 and 2 and with it a place in the All-Ireland decider.

They met Connacht Champions Claremorris Golf Club in the All-Ireland Final and they were lead again by Caolan Kennedy with Brian Duggan who beat Tom Fanning with Eddie Killeen by 4 and 3, they were followed by Tom Bent with Mick Timmons who lost out to Damien Burke with Des Griffith by 3 and 2, next up was Andrew Timmons & Mark Lacey who had a bad day against David Burke with Shane McGagh when losing out by 7 and 5, in the penultimate match Greg O'Riordan & Karl Kiernan lost by 2 and 1 to Ger Noone with Martin Higgins, the bottom match of Noel Lyons with Jack Blake had a 4 and 3 win over Anthony Hennelly with Richard Horan. So it was not to be for the north Dublin club who last appeared in the national deciders in this compotation in 1975.

Forrest Little Golf Club won the Leinster Final of the Fred Daly Trophy at their home club on Thursday 8th July 2010, when they beat Howth Golf Club in the semi-final by 4½ matches to 2½ matches and met regaining All-Ireland Champions Rosslare Golf Club in the decider in the afternoon who they beat by 4 matches to 3 matches.

First on the tee Alan Kiernan who went all the way to the 21st before losing out to Gary Collins, he was followed by Luke Dwyer who went to the 22nd before conceding the point to Gerard McNamara, next up was Jamie Doyle who beat Ross Young by 1-hole. Andy Dennis was next and had a 1-hole win over Eamonn Kelly, next up was Ben Conroy who had a convincing 6 and 5 win over Mark Holohan. The penultimate match of Craig Wilson went to Ian Cuddihy by 3 and 2, this left the result on a knife-edge when Caolan Kennedy held his nerve to edge out Ted Collins on the 19th.

Forrest Little Golf Club won the Leinster Final of the Barton Shield for the first time in 2007. It was off to Shandon Park Golf Club on Wednesday 12th September to compete in the All-Ireland Semi-Finals were they were drawn against a very strong Galway Golf Club, three of whom were on the All-Ireland Irish Senior Cup team that won at Enniscrone the previous year. Joe Lyons had just been selected for the Home Internationals, having won the West of Ireland and was runner-up in the South of Ireland, whereas Eddie McCormack was runner-up in the Irish Amateur Close Championship at Westport Golf Club in 2005 against none other than boy wonder Rory McIlroy. Add to this the experience of Tom Nolan, not only was he on the team that won the first Irish Senior Cup for his club in 2006, was on the team that lost out narrowly to Warrenpoint Golf Club at Rosslare in 2005 in the Barton Shield, but also experienced the ultimate heat-of-battle when winning the McCarty Cup with Galway in 1988.

So Forrest Little must have felt they were really up against it when first on the tee was Eoin Arthurs with Adrian Brogan against Eddie McCormack with Damien Glynn who won by 2-holes, they were followed by Conor O'Toole with Joe McCarthy who went down by 4-holes giving Galway Golf Club a place in the All-Ireland Final against Ulster Champions Belvoir Park, whom they beat by 5-holes.

This was a very credible performance by Forrest Little, in their first appearance in this the ultimate Championship in Amateur Golf, I’m sure we haven’t seen the last of this team.

Forrest Little won the Leinster Final of the Irish Junior Cup in 1973, when the team was T. Nugent, G. Bray, C. Lee, P. Kennedy, F. Daniels, S. Cahill, C. Darcy and M. Fitzgerald, they were managed by M. Mooney.

Forrest Little Golf Club won the Leinster Final of the  Jimmy Bruen Shield and were runners-up in the All-Ireland Final in 1975, when the team was A. Bourke, P. Collier, P. Tobin, T. Walsh, J. The Ladies of Forrest Little won the I.L.G.U. Autumn Cup in 1996, when the team was Rita Reilly, Barbara Lonergan, Yvonne Keating, Angela Murphy, Marie Pike, Ann Creag, Lorraine Dennis, Jeanette Lawlor, Margaret Murphy and Maureen Hampson, they were captained by Clodagh Kirwan.

It was off to the National Finals at The Heritage Golf Club on Monday 3rd October where they were paired with the Boystown pair of Mary Ranagher and Angela Seery.
