There has been a pub on the site of Austies since the 17th Century, it has been known as The Elsinore,  John Bruen’s and Austie’s, and both these previous owners were River Pilots in Sligo. Most recent owners were the Killgallon Family and both their Son and Austie’s Grandson continue to work in the pub today. Elsinore House is where William Butler Yeats and his brother spent their summers and Austies is featured in Jack B Yeats iconic Water Colour ‘Memory Harbour’ The pub is referenced in many books, including Dermott Healy’s A Goats Song, Thomas Flanagan’s,  The Year of the French and Kieran Devaney’s, Drumcliffe Pilots and The Waves of Tory.  It is a  seafaring bar with plenty of memorabilia and unique features, enjoy a drink at the ‘Captains Table’ , sit and look out onto ‘Memory Harbour’ with views out to the sea and across to Coney and Oyster Island.
